Ex-Super Falcons forward Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine dies aged 36

Ex-Super Falcon Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine playing against Brazil at a World Cup

Former Nigeria international attacker Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine was confirmed to have passed away aged 36, after a brief illness by the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) on Thursday.

Ifeanyichukwu captained the first set of the U19 National Women’s team to the first U19 (Now U20) at the FIFA Women’s World Cup  in 2002

Chiejine had featured for several clubs across Europe and USA, before her final professional stint with Zvezda Perm in Russia.

The ex-Kairat Almaty star captained Nigeria to the inaugural FIFA U19 Women’s World Championship in Canada in 2002, and also won the African Women’s Championship that year.

Chiejine featured three times at the senior Women’s World Cup in 1999, 2003 and 2007 and was also part of the country’s campaigns at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics.

The striker made her international debut for the African champions in 1999, and scored 15 goals in 61 international appearances.
