Mr Ogechukwu Igwe-Nnaji, Chief Executive Officer of First Quality Maintenance Ltd., has advised the Federal Government to create more awareness on environmental challenges to enable Nigerians live healthier.
Igwe-Nnaji, an environmental expert, gave the advice in Lagos .
According to him, disruption of natural flora and fauna and lack of very conducive environment for human habitation are parts of environmental challenges.
“Other economic activities like oil drilling have caused havoc in the environment,’’ he said.
The environmentalist said that the importance and usefulness of animals could not be overemphasised; hence it was capable of providing valuable food source via meat, eggs and dairy.
According to him, the animals provide textiles like wool or furs, or leather, while beasts of burden like horses, donkeys, camels, or oxen, can be used to haul things that humans need.
Igwe-Nnaji said that the extinction of animals should be discouraged to enhance continued benefits from them by the society.
He, however, advised Nigerians to acquire more knowledge on the environment to help in achieving good and healthy living for everyone.
Igwe-Nnaji noted the importance of planting trees, saying that it helps to reduce the effect of temperature on environment.
