Expert wants legislation, enforcement on air pollution control


The Deputy National President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Dr Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu, has called for legislation and enforcement to control the menace of air pollution in Nigeria.

Anyegwu, who is also the Provost, Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, made this call at a sensitisation programme on air pollution, held at the college on Friday in Idah.

The Deputy National President, also stressed the need to prosecute defaulters

“Being a health manpower training institution, it is our responsibility to bring stakeholders together and to sensitise them for positive actions, to redeem the fast depreciating and uninhabitable environment,” Anyegwu said.

He urged government to encourage afforestation, proper waste management system, health education, and harness natural sources of energy such as solar, wind and hydro.

“We must make adequate provision and usage of personal protective devices by industrial workers, alternative manufacturing of substances that do not destroy ozone layers, and avoid bush burning,” he added.
