The General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Bulama Biu has stated categorically that the explosion heard this morning in Maiduguri was not an attack by Boko Haram as perceived by many.
At about 3am, an explosion was heard which many people perceived to be an attack by the insurgents.
The Army Commander, Brigadier General Bulama Biu who confirmed this to Voice of Nigeria said the explosion heard was what the military calls “a Test firing”.
Test firing according to the GOC is a long range shot that sounds like an explosion of a bomb blast. The explosion was in the outskirt of Maiduguri Town, a place called Mole.
Brigadier General Biu said that the long range shot is fired by the military when during patrols, they sight a gathering of insurgents or perceive that they are hiding out in a particular area, the test firing is therefore done to repel the insurgents.
