Fake nursing training advert sparks protest in Zimbabwe

Scores of aspiring nursing students held a demonstration in Zimbabwe’s south-western city of Bulawayo after an advertisement for enrolment into a state-funded training programme turned out to be a fraud.

According to reporters, they thronged Mpilo Central Hospital, the announced venue of the exercise, to try their hand in the programme only to be turned away, Zimbabwe’s health ministry has since dismissed the advertisement as a fake.

Bulawayo Provincial Administrator, Judith Ncube, told reporters that”the enrolment was unfair because it sidelined prospective applicants in rural areas with limited access to the internet.”

In a tweet, the ministry said online applications to the programme closed on August 31 and had not been extended as announced in the advertisement.
