The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna has attributed the country’s present economic crunch to unemployment.

She made the disclosure at a reception organised in her honour for being reappointed as Minister in Kaduna by a group, ‘The Kaduna State Well Wishers’.

While referring to the President’s commitment on planning to lift a hundred million Nigerians out of poverty, the Finance Minister said, the biggest challenge had been unemployment, hence, the need for all sectors of the economy to focus on creating jobs in different ways.

She explained that, sourcing fund for medium enterprises will be a major progress, saying, as medium businesses grow, there will be more employment opportunities.

“We have a clear policy which was implemented in the first term. The President has directed a plan through the implementation and we are in the process of devising the plan so that we can grow the economy in a more robust manner”.

Development Plan
The Minister gave the assurance that, government will soon start another development plan that will guide all the Ministers in the cabinet on what they are supposed to do in their respective Ministries.

Speaking on the reception organised in her honour, Hajiya Zainab appreciated all the people that played vital roles in her reappointment, particularly, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, whom she said, recommended her reappointment.

“It really came to me as a shock when the President reappointed me to run the triple tier Ministries. One thing I have learnt over time is that, once I am assigned to handle an obligation, I usually seek the help of experts on the task because I believe, I do not know everything and in every place, an expert can be anyone, I do not differentiate but learn from everyone”.

The Finance Minister further disclosed that, her Father taught her to respect everybody, especially her employees whose support are needed, such as the drivers, securities and even the cook. “These are the people who will support you when you treat them right”.

Hajiya Zainab therefore, called on people to grant government the necessary support with advice and constructive criticism. Adding that, as humans, they can only do their best in the discharge of duties.

While appreciating the organisers of the event, her family and friends, she promised to commit herself towards her responsibility by being honest and transparent as that was what the President had urged them to uphold.

On his part, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai appreciated the President for reappointing Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna.

“This is because she did well in her first tenure as the Minister of Finance, hence the President tripled her responsibility by adding Budget and National Planning, we are indeed grateful to Mr. President for this recognition”, he stressed.

The Governor said, they felt short-changed during the President’s first tenure but that; Kaduna State has been rewarded by the President with two Ministerial positions in his cabinet.

He therefore urged the people of Kaduna State to continue to support the President by praying for his good health, wisdom and long life to take the country forward.
