Nigeria’s U-20 team will fly to Cairo on a two-match tour of Egypt as part of the team’s preparations for the qualifiers of the 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Coach Paul Aigbogun leads the new team with the mandate to return the Flying Eagles to the U-20 AFCON, which they missed last year. He is also mandated to qualify the team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup with a target of winning the title.
According to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation, El-Kanemi Warriors’ Nur Mohammed, Ikouwem Utin of Enyimba FC and Plateau United’s Eneji Moses, who impressed with the Super Eagles at the African Nations Championship in Morocco earlier in the year, are in the 23-man squad that will face the Junior Pharaohs.
Kano Pillars’ Nazifi Yahaya, Nasarawa United’s Douglas Achiv and Akwa United’s duo Duarw Nuhu and Adeshina Gata are also in the contingent.
Team Administrator Aliyu Lawal said that the Flying Eagles would take on the Junior Pharaohs on Tuesday and Thursday with both matches holding in Alexandria.
The seven-time African champions will play the winners of the preliminary fixture between Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau in the first round of the qualifiers in mid-May. Niger Republic will host the 2019 U-20 AFCON.
