The speaker of the Benue state house of assembly, Titus Ujah, says there was the need for legislators to focus on agriculture.
Ujah, who was speaking on the theme “The role of legislation in agricultural development in Nigeria“at the Feed Nigeria Summit 2019 holding in Abuja, said it was the only business that could Nigeria forward.
“We the legislators need to support agriculture, especially on the implementation of findings to make agriculture thrive.
“Agriculture in Nigeria can feed the whole world if properly practiced and given the right equipment to farmers to improve their productivity.’’
He said Nigeria’s agriculture must open up for massive investment; but insisted that legislative backing to spell out modus operandi was vital to ensure investors are not discouraged by issues such as multiple taxation as well as protecting local indigenous rights.
