Former Vice President, Namadi Sambo has commended Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai for completing the Zaria water expansion project, which had not been upgraded for 42 years.
Sambo made the commendation when he led an entourage to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor in Kaduna.
He applauded the resolve of the governor to complete projects he inherited, especially the Zaria project which is supplying potable water to over two million people.
The former VP said, the water expansion has addressed the perennial portable water shortage in the ancient city and improved social and economic life of the people.
“I am particularly humbled for recognising my contribution to the successful completion of the water project during the commissioning. Certainly you have shown that improving the lives of our people matter the most to you,” Sambo said.
Enabling environment
He also appreciated efforts made at the on-going 300 bed specialist hospital project which he said, when completed, would provide enabling environment to train doctors and other medical personnel, improve health care delivery and end medical tourism abroad.
I am not surprised at your immense achievements; I have clearly read your industrial and development plans and I want to assure you of our support to the noble objective in improving and uplifting the economic status of the State,” he said.
Responding, Governor El-Rufai commended the former Vice President for initiating the Kaduna urban renewal plan and construction of the 300 bed specialist hospital during his tenure as Governor of the State.
Your vision for the development of Kaduna State was paramount, and I will give examples, because it’s okay to make statements like this and it’s another to give examples. You visualised what Zaria needed, called consultants to study the problem and proposed solution to it”.
“You went to Abidjan, Tunis, Jeddah and arranged the financing for the Zaria water project, you pushed the Federal Government to build Galma Dam to provide water for this samr project”.
According to El-Rufai, Sambo had everything in place, fortunately, he was moved to a higher office. That was when the problems started as no predecessor continued with the projects until he came to office and decided to deal with the problem once and for all.
The Governor appreciated the former VP  for his vision, focus and efforts for Kaduna State, saying, it is only now that government is implementing other projects envisioned by him.
