New Dawn
After the entire exercise, which was conducted in the presence of heavily armed policemen, the re-elected Mathew Achigbe said that the successful congress was a clear indication of the party’s resolve to take Cross River to the next level.

“We are grateful to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for the leadership in the country and the party. My vision and an objective to achieve and that is to win Cross River State to the centre,”.

“We must deliver Cross River from the misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP  that is epitomised in the ascension Professor Ben Ayade, who has abused the people of this State,” Achigbe said.

Meanwhile, a communiqué released by some critical stakeholders of the party, distanced them from the fresh congress, describing it as null and void.

Void Congress
In a communiqué, which was signed by the state chairman of a faction, Godwin Etim John read in part: “That after exhaustive deliberations by members of the party on the way forward, stakeholders agreed that there is need for a strong and united party in the State and that APC Cross River is committed to bringing together all aggrieved members”

“That the APC in Cross River State shall obey the order of Abuja High Court of August 16, 2018 in which a perpetual injunction was placed on APC against conducting any further State Congress in Cross River. That any other congress by any group or individuals or party agents in Cross River remains null and void,” the communiqué further indicated.

Further investigations by Voice of Nigeria on the meeting, which released the communiqué revealed that those who participated at the fresh congress boycotted the gathering just as the Etim-John faction avoided the rescheduled election.
