Global health centre to partner Kano state on disease control


The Director of the Center for Global Health (CGH), at the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Rebecca Martin, says the centre will partner with Kano state Government in areas of disease control and ‎prevention.

‎Martin made the pledge in Kano when she paid a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje at the Government House, Kano.

‎She said that the partnership would focus on disease control HIV and Polio in the state.

“Our partnership will provide health services and improve health care delivery in the state. It will also help in strengthening and sustaining routine immunisation programmes that will save more lives and keep Nigeria polio-free,” she said.

Martin added that the centre would ‎conduct survey on HIV prevalence nationwide in order to provide antiretroviral drugs.

‎She also commended the State Government for her effort in sustaining routine immunisation programmes that saved many lives and kept the state polio-free.

Earlier, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the state had given high premium to health care delivery.

Ganduje said that Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Dangote are collaborating with the state in the areas of Polio eradication and primary health care.

‎The governor added that his administration will continue to play a vital role in establishing a legacy of sustained commitment to routine immunisation in the state.

Ganduje, who thanked her for the visit, also restated his commitment in improving health care services for citizens of the state.
