Gombe farmers want early distribution of inputs

Famers in Gombe State has called on the Federal and state governments to ensure early distribution of fertilizer and other inputs for 2019 farming season.

Some of the farmers made the call in Gombe on Saturday.

One of the farmers, Malam Saleh Ibrahim, said that distribution of farming input on time would help them to plant their crops and apply the commodity in time during the season.
“It is better to distribute the commodity in time than delay the distribution of the inputs.

“We are appealing to governments and associations, especially now that Federal government in collaboration with farmers associations under the Anchor Borrower Programme is distributing farming inputs to ensure early distribution of farming inputs.

“Most of our challenge in the past was the delay of getting the inputs on time especially the fertilizer but now government is providing it but, we want it on time,” he said.

He said they have confidence in the present Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for his concern on agriculture toward improving the living standard of Nigerians.

Umaru Abubakar, another farmer said with available inputs given on time, like in the months of April/May annually it would assist them to plant on time.

“If we have our inputs at hand, we will know how many hectares of land to clear for the season and to budget for other expenses.

“So with all these on ground it will help to boost farming activities in the state and the country in general”, he said.

According to him, distribution of the inputs under the Anchor Borrower programme will enable beneficiaries to pay back the loan on time without any challenge.

Malam Mohammed Pindiga, commended the Federal Government for doing well on agricultural sector and urged the state and Local governments to do same to enable them get enough fertilizer.

According to him, doing this will help the farmers and unemployed youths to be fully engaged than staying idle to commit crime.
