Gombe governor flags off youth employment scheme

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has flagged- off the issuance of ATM cards to beneficiaries of the Public Workfare and Special Grant Transfer of the Youth Employment and Social Support Operations, YESSO, in Akko and Billiri Local Government Areas of the state.

The Governor said at both events that his administration had been able to align the YESSO intervention programme with the Gombe Goes Green 3G Programme. The programme is an initiative designed to conserve the environment and provide jobs to the teeming youths, women and other vulnerable members of the society.

He said the major thrust of the programme was to improve the living condition of the vulnerable, by improving their skills and increasing their access to immediate work opportunities, through the provision of general social services and strengthening of social safety net in the state.

The Gombe State Governor said his administration had in the last six months, enrolled 27,000 beneficiaries across the 11 local government areas of the state.

He said with the flag-off of the Gombe Goes Green, the beneficiaries would be deployed to the 3G programme to nurture the trees, while each beneficiary would be paid a monthly allowance of 7,500 naira with five months arrears to cover the period since the commencement of the programme.

Governor Yahaya congratulated the beneficiaries and charged them to be dutiful in their new task of ensuring that they nurture the trees to maturity.

The National Coordinator of YESSO, Hajiya Hajara Sami, who was represented by the Gombe State Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Michael Habila, lauded the Inuwa led administration for aligning its 3G initiative with YESSO, which he said had so far produced remarkable results.
