Gombe State government is to establish a teachers training institute for primary and secondary school teachers, converting the federal Almajiri school built in 2015.

The Governor of Gombe state, Muhammadu Inuwa Yaya revealed this during his visit to the abandoned Almajiri School established in 2015, in Kwami Local Government Area Gombe State.

According to the Governor, the Federal Government, spent over N360m to build the Almajiri school, but it didn’t serve the purpose, claiming the Federal Government did not seek community advice on the establishment and the location where the school was built.

Governor Yaya said he visited the headquarters of the Universal Basic Education Commission and sought their co-operation in using the Almajiri School buildings as a teacher training Institute.

He added that he would renovate the Almajiri school built by the Federal Government for the purpose of improving the teaching profession in Gombe State.

The governor said he noticed that Gombe State graduating secondary school students had poor WAEC and NECO results.

He attributed this to the lack of professional teachers in both Primary and Secondary schools, explaining that with the establishment of the teachers training institute, the state would overcome these problems.

Renovations will commence this August.
