Gombe State seeks GBB intervention in ICT infrastructure

The Gombe State government says it will collaborate with Galaxy Backbone Ltd(GBB) on ICT infrastructural services for effective governance .
The State Commissioner of Science and Technology Innovation, Dr Aisha Umar-Mairiga disclosed during a courtesy call to the Managing Director of Galaxy Back Bone, GBB, Professor  Mohammed Abubakar   in Abuja.
She said that the aim of the visit was also to seek the Company’s intervention in providing technical assistance and ICT infrastructure to enable the state key into the digital economy drive of the federal government.
Umar explained that the Governor of the state had approved the standardisation of their website in preparation for the take off of E-governance and E-council .
“Presently our State website is domiciled here and our governor has given approval for Standardisation of the website of all MDAs in preparation for the take off of E-governance and E-council.
Our website is hosted by the GBB, the hotspot in government house is also managed by Galaxy.So there are a lot of things that we can work together and see what we can achieve,” she said.
According to the Commissioner, the state will leverage on ICT in order to make it an ICT hub in the region through the partnership with GBB.
She noted that ,the partnership is expected to provide job opportunities and empowerment through ICT skills.
Adding that another area of intervention would be the deployment of fibre optic for effective broadband peneration, which will in turn provide internet services in the state.
In his remarks, the MD of GBB, Abubakar said that E-governance, E-commerce and E-health among others have to be promoted so that Nigeria can be fully digitised .
He noted that one of the Eight pillars of the Federal Government’ s Digital Economy Strategy Policy Plan launched in 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhar is Digital Inclusion which help driving ICT in the country.
He assured the Gombe state government of the Company’s support and to build on the existing relationship to come up with a plan that will assist the state in ICT development.
Galaxy Backbone is the Information Technology and Shared Services Provider of the Federal Government of Nigeria, with a mandate to enable the Digital Economy initiatives of government under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
