The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has postponed the 2018 Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classics earlier scheduled to hold from June 24 to 30.
In a statement on Tuesday, the NWF said the competition was postponed because of the ongoing 2018 World Cup in Russia, which has some of the sports stakeholders in the country in attendance as part of the Federal Government’s delegation.
The NWF said the competition would hold in August.
Secretary General of the federation Mohammed Libata said the new date for the competition would be announced later after due consultations.
“The Governor Seriake Dickson National Wrestling Classics has been postponed. The postponement is as a result of the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where the major stakeholders in the sporting industry are present.
“Some of the guests we expect at the competition are in Russia as a part of the Federal Government delegation and it would not be befitting to hold the competition behind them.
“The venue for the event remains the Indoor Sports Hall of Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.”
Over 500 wrestlers from different states of the country and clubs are expected to participate in the Classics.
