Governing party expects 7000 delegates at Saturday’s Convention

Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC is expecting about 7000 delegates for its National Convention billed for June 23.

The Chairman of the Media sub-committee for the convention planning committee and Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi told Journalists in Abuja that the party was fully prepared for the convention.

“We are very happy about all the preparations, everything is in place, you can see what we call a very professional arrangement on Saturday,” Governor Ajimobi said.

He stated that some aspirants may drop from the race before the convention day. 

“Politics is about conflict and resolution and today we are meeting many of the aspirants, we look at them and interview them to ensure a smooth operation on Saturday, “Governor Ajimobi explained.

The chairman of the convention subcommittee for accreditation, Mr. Ahmed Yarima said they would be thorough screening and accreditation of the delegates attending the convention from all the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

“You will present a card at the gate to be checked on the list because we are not having opportunity to put photographs of delegates but at least we are going to put numbering and security code so that as soon as you come to the gate you are properly identified, screened and then you enter…You will equally present another card inside to enable you vote,” he explained.

The Convention Planning Committee inspected the Eagle square which is the venue for the convention.
