Governor Ben Ayade has been declared winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Cross River State, southern Nigeria.
Ayade, who is the incumbent contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and scored a total of 381,484 votes to defeat the APC contender, Senator John Owan-Enoh representing the central senatorial district.
APC’s Owan-Enoh scored 131,161 votes, while Eyo Ekpo of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, got 4,818 votes.
The Returning Officer Professor Akii Ibhadode Akii, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State made the announcement at the collation centre for the Governorship election in Calabar.
Professor Akii said that Cross River had a total of 1,486,026 registered voters of which 542,115 were accredited to vote.
He stated that the number of valid votes were 522,309, rejected votes equalled 11,499, while total votes cast was 533,808.
Akii, who gave a breakdown of the votes according to the 26 political parties and candidates then congratulated the winner, Governor Ben Ayade for the feat achieved.
“That Ayade Benedict having scored the required number of lawful votes, is hereby declared winner of the 2019 governorship election and will returned“, stated the returning officer.
