Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has assured residents that the State Urban Renewal Projects handling road expansions and new district layouts would be completed within 18 months.

He made the announcement during an inspection visit alongside his Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe and other government officials to some of the sites where the project is ongoing.

Some of the projects ongoing include, construction of seven new roads, upgrade of fourteen existing ones,  parks, Kaduna Centenary Park, new ultra-modern markets, neighbourhood centres and Galaxy Shopping mall amongst other infrastructures.

He said part of the expansion by the State government is opening up of several new districts because the old Kaduna has become congested with more than three million people living in the city.

Opening up of the new district in the Eastern part of the State will help decongest the city. More people will relocate the metropolis to the new Kaduna which will have a provision of good transportation connection so that people can get to work in no time,” he said.

The Governor mentioned that government is also working on opening up the Western side in Rigasa area to Birnin Gwari so that more land will be available for residential, commercial as well as industrial purposes.

This is a key urban renewal project and it is something that we will be visiting from time to time to make sure things go on course and are completed within a period of 18 months.

Speaking on the funds for the project, he mentioned that, the government is expecting the loan already earmarked for the State by the World Bank which was not accessed in the last tenure.

We are confident that the loan will be accessed, hence, we don’t want to lose time. By God’s grace, in the next 18 months, we will have a new Kaduna with new roads, less traffic and congestion. More people will have plots to build their homes outside of the old Kaduna GRA,” El-Rufai stressed.

The deputy governor, Dr. Balaraba also assured them that the new GRA would also have all the facilities such as the ones in the city like electricity, link roads, and water supply.
