Osun State governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP has warned against diversion of the recently released N16.6 billion Naira Paris Club refund to the State.

Senator Ademola Adeleke said at a press briefing on Tuesday that any attempt to use the money to finance projects or for electoral purposes would be resisted by the people.

“Every kobo from the refund must go to settlement of outstanding salaries and employment of workers.

“If anything contrary is done in the handling of the fund, we will ensure full recovery of the last kobo once our government is voted into office. All those involved in such criminal diversion of the Paris refund or any other funds meant for the welfare of the workers and pensioners will be pursued, arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

Voice of Nigeria reports that the State government recently disbursed a sum of N19.8 billion for payment of four months arrears of salary and 2016 leave bonus to all categories of workers and pensioners.

The State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola also directed that State workers should subsequently be paid their full salary as at when due.

However, Senator Adeleke insisted that the fund was meant for the payment of workers’ salary arrears, pensions but wondered while similar bailout funds in the past still left then with several months of arrears.

“Let me make it abundantly clear that the criminal diversion of this latest release will be resisted. The government officials who are directly or remotely connected with the application of this new release must ensure workers’ salaries; pensions and arrears are paid without further delay,” he stated.

Adeleke urged the workers and voters to remain vigilant, even as stressed his commitment to bringing succor to the workers if elected governor.

Osun State will be heading to the poll on September 22.
