Human Right Volunteer Corps, a rights group, has called for a national policy to encourage green cities which is aimed at reducing air pollution in the country.
The Executive Director of the group, Mr. Larry Oguego, made the call in in Enugu.
Oguego said that there must be a deliberate policy to redeem the future of the country’s cities from air pollution and greenhouse gases.
According to him, there is a need to take environment governance to the next level just like many countries by ensuring that injurious air and gaseous matters are systematically removed or avoided from entering the atmosphere.
He noted that the country needs to move fast to make sure that respiratory and lung diseases would not be the major diseases in the next 20 years.
Oguego also called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Oragnisations (CSOs) to continue putting pressure on everyone and ensuring that air pollution is checked in the country.
