A group of eminent Nigerians have come together to institute and project a truly Nigerian leadership prize that will inspire the people to lead a life larger than self, for community, nation and humanity.
Known as the Nigerian Prize for leadership, the initiative targets Nigerians of all ages who have shown credible, exemplary, remarkable and sustainable success, prowess and creativity in their various endeavours through compelling personal, corporate and social values.
It seeks to ‘challenge, inspire and motivate the younger generation’ towards acquiring purposeful leadership skills, tools and experience for sustainable human development and nation building.
Chairman, governing board Nigerian Prize for leadership, Professor Anya Anya in an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos on Thursday lamented the damage done to Nigeria over the years as a result of poor leadership.
“We recognise that the enormous damage done to this country over the years by poor leadership is incalculable. Indeed, the very fabric of our society has been deeply shaken and could be shattered if urgent actions are not taken,” Professor said.
He said that the objective of the new leadership Prize is therefore to conceptualise and put in place a leadership culture based on reinventing the essence, beauty, integrity, resourcefulness, traditions and heritage of Nigerian shared values among others.
The Nigerian Prize for Leadership will be presented annually beginning from next year. The prize attracts a prize money for the winner and includes other unique elements such as Protege Leadership Program and International Leadership clinic and Exhibition.
