Gubernatorial Elections: Collation of results ongoing in Katsina

Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

In the next forty eight hours from now, electorates in Katsina state North west Nigeria will now know their new governor and members of the state House of Assembly that would pilot the affair of the state for the next four years.

This follows the successful conduct of the Gubernatorial and state house of Assembly elections in the state on Saturday as observed across the country.

However, collation and counting of the results has since begun in almost all the polling units across the thirty four local government areas of the state.

The officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  in the state have since commenced sorting and declaring results of the election from the different polling unit where the election is conducted in the state.

Though, the whole process is said to be hitch free as of the time of filling this report but information gathered by team of voice of Nigeria who were in Katsina to monitor the exercise show that there is low turnout of voters across the state when compared to the last two Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The governor of the state Alhaji Masari saluted the courage and orderliness as exhibited by the people of the state during the voting period.

He then enjoined them to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the announcement of the Gubernatorial and state house of Assembly election results.

Also, the gubernatorial candidate of the main opposition party in the state, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Yakubu Lado Dan Marke has urged the security agencies in the state to be neutral throughout the period until results are announced.

He again called on the Electoral umpire to ensure that the elections process went smoothly as enshrined in the country’s constitution.
