Hockey: James Samaila’s brace takes Kada Stars to league summit


Samaila’s brace was enough to earn Kada Stars of Kaduna a 2-1 win against Nasarawa Flickers and ensure the Ndana Boys go top of the ongoing 2018 National Hockey Super League table.

The National Hockey Super League which flicked off at the Astro turf hockey pitch of the Package B National Stadium, Abuja on Aug. 24 is expected to end on Saturday.

All the goals in the game were scored in the space of three minutes as Nasarawa Flickers refused to give in to Kada Stars.

Samaila scored the first goal in the 25th minutes through a penalty corner but Haruna Ovey equalized for Nasarawa Flickers one minute after Kada’s goal.

Samaila grabbed his brace which proved to be the winning goal for the Ndana Boys in the 27th minute from another penalty corner.

Kada Stars now are occupying the top spot with 12 points from four games, while Niger Flickers have 9 points albeit from three games.

In other matches, Delta Force defeated IGP Flickers 3-1, Stallions of Lagos shocked Niger Flickers 1-0, while Yobe Desert Rollers played out a 1-1 draw with Police Machine.

In the female category, Heartland of Imo were held to a 1-1 draw by Yobe Queens, Benue Amazon lost 0-1 to Kada Queens, while Rivers Angels defeated Delta Queens by a lone goal.
