The House of Representatives’ Committee on the North East Development Commission has urged the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to strive to provide the needed support for those displaced by years of insurgency in the region.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hajia Khadija Bukar-Ibrahim made the call when the committee interface with the management of the North East Development Commission, NEDC.
The interface was to provide the needed information to the committee for the consideration of the Commission’s budget for 2020 fiscal year.
Hajia Bukar-Ibrahim said the House will continue to partner with the commission to provide succor to those affected by the insurgency through supporting their return to their communities.
The Director General of the Commission, Maj. Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd) revealed that within the six months of its existence NEDC has adopted all-encompassing approach, reflecting on humanitarian development and peacemaking in the region.
Mass Housing scheme for IDPs
In a related development the Federal Housing Authority says it is planning a Mass Housing Scheme in the North East part of the country for the returning IDPs in the region.
The Managing Director of the Agency Umar Gwantu told the House Committee on Housing and habitat that despite the paucity of fund, the agency is planning to construct over thirty thousand Housing Units across the country to reduce the Housing deficit.
