The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police and the Director General Department of State Service to shut down the Edo State House of Assembly, as one of the measures adopted to end the political crisis in the State.

The House also urged the Edo State Governor to issue fresh proclamation within one week in line with the provisions of the nation’s constitution stating the date, time and venue the lawmakers should be inaugurated.

These were contained in the recommendations of the ad-hoc committee inaugurated last week to intervene in the crisis presented on the floor of the house by its Chairman Abdulrazaq Namdas.

“Where the committees’ recommendations fail, the National Assembly should invoke the provisions of Section 11 (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to take over the State House of Assembly until the situation normalizes” the committee recommends.

The committee equally, declared all actions taken by the State’s seventh Assembly as null and void and called on the lawmakers to dissolve their factions in the interest of peace and stability.
