The House of Representatives is to launch an investigation on National Emergency Management Agency NEMA on the alleged award of dubious contracts of over two billion naira to a company personally known to the officials of the agency.
In a motion of urgent national importance the lawmakers said NEMA has not been able to meet up with its core mandate but rather involved in the illegal siphoning of funds by its officials.
Sponsor of the bill Mr. Benjamin Wayo from Benue State expressed concern that NEMA despite the ten billion naira it received from the Ecological Fund in the last one year and five million naira also for hunger intervention in the northeast, yet nothing significantly has been achieved.
Mr. Wayo noted that “in spite of several cases of disasters across the country, NEMA is allegedly busy siphoning money through dubious means without attending to its core mandate.”
The lawmakers expressed worried that the NEMA awarded contracts to companies its Director General has personal interest in violating the provision of the constitution.
