With a few hours to their must-win match against Nigeria, Argentina’s coach Jorge Sampaoli says his team must slow-down the pace of the Super Eagles while keeping possession.
Speaking at a press conference before the clash in St. Petersburg, Sampaoli said stoping Nigeria from fast breaking aways is their first job as a team ahead of today’s game.
”We have to be honest with ourselves. Nigeria have very quick players and they can turn the defence into attack with pace. We have have to deal with it as team. The main thing is to stop them from having the chance to use it”, Sampaoli said.
Sampaoli said his coaching crew will play close attention to Eagles wing-back Victor Moses, while noting the tactical flexibility of Gernot Rohr.
“They have very relevant players with a lot of experience such as Moses and the team in the second half of the matches they tend to make the difference from the physical standpoint, and they tend to play from box to box,” he added.
Argentina must beat Nigeria to have any chance of advancing, hoping Iceland do not smash a second-string Croatia side that has already qualified for the second round.
