Ibrahim emerges Speaker of Gombe Assembly

The 6th Assembly of the Gombe State House of Assembly has been constituted, with Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim, of Yamaltu West Constituency, emerging as the Speaker and  Shuaibu Adamu Haruna of Kwami East Constituency also emerging as the Deputy Speaker.

In his inaugural speech in the chambers of the Gombe State House of Assembly, the Speaker, Mallam Ibrahim, pledged to hold the office of the Speaker as a public trust and ensure that all members worked together to take the state to greater heights.

He encouraged all members to collectively work in harmony with the executive, judiciary and other organisations in tackling the various challenges facing the state.

The Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly also urged all the legislators, irrespective of party affiliation, to give him the needed support to deliver on their mandate, while pledging on behalf of the entire assembly, to do their best to respond to the aspirations of the electorate.

“The mandate of the people we are holding today will not be in vain, as we will do our best to respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate. We are fully aware that the citizens of Gombe are looking forward to see the change they voted for.

“We will not let them down. The House has been proclaimed and we look forward to receiving bills, requests, petitions and any other correspondences allowed by the constitution,” said the Gombe State House of Assembly Speaker.

The 6th House of Assembly in Gombe State comprises 24 members; 19 from the All Progressives Congress and five others from the People’s Democratic Party.

There is also one female representative, Ms. Asma’u Iganus of the People’s Democratic Party, representing Shongom Constituency.

Other Principal Officers of the Gombe State House of Assembly were also elected, including members of the minority party.
