It has now emerged that Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo could actually join English giants Manchester United permanently.
His parent club Shanghai Shenhua had given the go-ahead for the 30-year-old to extend his loan deal with the Old Trafford club till August 31, instead of the original May 31 date.
Ighalo has turned his January move into a sort of dream fairytale as he has scored for goals for the club both locally and on the continent.
However, due to the uncertainty surrounding the resumption of the Chinese league as well as a cap on foreign players, the Edo-born striker could be allowed to leave.
“Renewing the loan for half a year is equivalent to revitalizing the Ighalo for the next Chinese league season,” a club official said.
“If Ighalo is in good condition after the loan, we can sell him to Manchester United. It depends on the needs of the club.”
