The coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has dropped Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester) and Semi Ajayi (Rotherham United) from his final list of players for the 2019 AFCON scheduled for Egypt.

Iheanacho’s exclusion may not be unconnected with his bit-part playing role for his English club side last season.

Semi Ajayi’s exclusion raised some eyebrows because he was voted player of the season for his championship side that failed to gain promotion to the English Premier League.

But defender Ola Aina – who did not make the final cut for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia – was included, ostensibly because of his superb season with Italian Serie A side Torino.

Moses Simon, who missed the mundial last year after failing to recover from an injury is on the plane to Egypt as well.

Other new entrants include: Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu and 2015 U-17 World Cup hero Victor Osimhen.

Regulars like Captain John Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa all kept their spots.
