INEC begins collation in Cross River State

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has opened the Cross River State collation centre.

Results for three local government areas, Akpabuyo and Calabar Municipality in the southern district of Cross River and Ogoja in the north, were presented.

In Akpabuyo, the number of Registered Voters were 56,901 from the 10 wards; Accredited Voters – 18,412; Valid votes – 17, 680; Rejected Votes – 493; total votes cast 18,173.

The APC scored 4, 524 votes, PDP – 12, 614 and SDP got 344 votes in Akpabuyo.

From Ogoja, the 10 wards had 89,734 Registered Voters of which 38, 722 were accredited.

Of the number, 36,935 Valid Votes were cast, 642 – rejected, while total votes equaled 37,577.

In Ogoja APC scored 7,466, PDP 28, 798, while SDP got 408.

Meanwhile, two polling units in Ogoja with 441 and 633 registered voters were cancelled due to ballot box snatching.

Another local government area result that of Calabar Municipality was taken immediately after Ogoja.

There were 166,206 Registered Voters; of the number 24,935 were accredited to vote.

PDP got 15,574 votes, APC 7,703 and SDP 465 VOTES.

Valid votes for Calabar Municipal was 24,212; Rejected Votes 635, while Total Votes Cast equaled 24,847.

In an earlier remark, Professor Akii Ibhadode Akii of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun in Delta State, the Returning Officer for the Governorship Election, laid the ground rules for agents of the political parties to make observations and comments.

However, at the time the result for Ogoja was read out, the APC collation centre agent, Maurice Effiwatt walked out of the centre on suspicion that the collation officer, was from the same local government area as the PDP governorship candidate.
