The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the distribution of sensitive materials for this Saturday’s State House of Assembly election in Anambra State.
The distribution which took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters in Awka, the state capital, involved the movement of the materials across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Addressing journalists during the event, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state,Dr Nkwachukwu Orji said everything was on course and the commission was determined to ensure that the election was free and fair.
“We will our best to ensure that the election is held peacefully and transparently in all the affected areas. Our job here is to make sure that the House of Assembly and Supplementary elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.”
He said the election would be conducted along with the supplementary election for Aguata and Idemili South Federal Constituency.
Dr Orji explained that the supplementary election was necessitated as a result of violence that erupted in some of the polling units in the areas and called on the people to be lawful during the exercise and report any attempt to cause any breach of peace to the law enforcement agents.
