INEC declares Benue Governorship election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the Benue State governorship election inconclusive.

INEC said its decision was based on available statistics that 121,011 electorates were either not able to vote or election did not hold in the areas.

Declaring the outcome of the polls in Makurdi, the state returning officer,  Professor Sebastian Maimako announced that Mr Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party scored the highest number of votes of 410,576.

While he was closely followed by Mr Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress Party, who polled a total number of 329,022 votes.
