INEC declares Osun state governorship election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the Osun state governorship election inconclusive.

The announcement was made by INEC’s Returning Officer,  Joseph Afuwape at the collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday.

Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke scored 254,698 votes, while his counterpart from the All Progressives Congress, APC, Isiaka Oyetola scored 254, 345 votes.

Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party came third, polling 128,049 votes.

Fuwape explained the difference between the two leading parties was only 353 votes and that the number of cancelled votes was 3,498.

He then said: “Unfortunately, as the Returning Officer, it is not possible to declare any party as the winner.”

A date for the re-run is to be announced soon.
