INEC declares Sokoto gubernatorial election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared the gubernatorial election in Sokoto State North West Nigeria inconclusive.

Declaring the result, the State Collation Officer and the Vice Chancellor Federal University Dutse, Mrs Fatima Batul Mukhtar, said the Peoples Democratic Party scored 489, 558 votes and the All Progressive Congress got 486,145 votes.

She said having compared the margin, it would not be the difference that paves way for the declaration the winner.

The Vice Chancellor added that there were cancellations of results across the 22 local government areas in 136 polling units.

She said the total number of registered votes in the polling units where the result was cancelled was 75, 403.

The VC explained that having being the margin only as 3,413, she declared the election in Sokoto inconclusive.

She added that the decision now remained for INEC to decide on the next steps.

Break down of the result are as follows

Total number of registered voters in the state: 1, 887,767
Total number of accredited voters: 1, 033, 081

Total number of valid votes: 987,942

Total number of rejected votes: 30, 082

Total number of votes casts: 1, 008,024

APC got: 486,245
PDP scored: 489, 558
Difference: 3,413
