The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced Thursday, September 27 as the date for the Osun State governorship election rerun.
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof Joseph Fowape, said on Sunday that election irregularities had affected some polling units in Ife North, Orolu and Ife South local government areas.
This resulted in the cancellation of 3,498 votes recorded in the affected polling units.
Prof. Fuwape, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said since the margin between the two leading candidates was lower than the registered cancelled votes.
He explained that according to INEC standing rules, the election had to be declared inconclusive.
The rerun election is to take place at the affected polling units on Thursday.
All 48 parties on the ballot are required to partake in the election.
