The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended electoral process in River State until further notice.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Electoral Commission said it suspended elections in the State after reviewing reports from officials on the field about wide spread disruption of elections conducted on the 9th of March.
“These initial reports suggest that violence occurred in a substantial number of Polling units and collation centres, staff have been taken hostage and materials including result sheets have either been seized or destroyed by unauthorized persons. In addition, safety of our appears to be in jeopardy all over the states and the commission concerned about the credibility of the process”, the Commission stated.

In the statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman on Information and Vocter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, INEC after its meeting held on the 10th of March took the decision to suspend elections in the South South State.
