Interpreters urge government to pass indigenous development bill

The National Assembly has been called upon to speed up the passage of Nigeria Institute of Translators and Interpreters NITI bill for development of indigenous languages in the country.

Former president of the institute Professor. Ekundayo Simpson made the call at the 17th congress meeting and workshop organised to mark the international translators day held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to him “the NITI bill which is now at the 2nd reading need quick intervention of the National Assembly for promoting Nigerian indigenous languages and development process of the country.”

He said if translations of Nigerian indigenous languages had been embraced, the country would have developed faster.

The secretary General NITI Mr. Joachim Okeke said our target is to develop the indigenous languages in Nigeria”.

The 2019 conference for Nigerian institute of translators and interpreters NITI has the theme “ Translation and Indigenous Languages” and featured induction of new members.
