Iwobi signs long-term deal with Arsenal

Super Eagles attacker Alex Iwobi has signed a new long-term contract with his Arsenal FC.

Iwobi joined us as a nine year old, coming through the Hale End Academy.

He has made 98 appearances, scoring nine goals.

Shortly after inking the new deal, Iwobi said he hoped this would help fire up his season with the gunners.

“Really pleased to extend my contract & commit my future to this special club. From U-6 to BIG 17, so many people have helped me.

“Thank you. Grateful to our new manager for the faith shown in me & our fans for the love, support & patience. Excited for 18/19, love gunners,” he said on twitter.

Good academy

Arsenal manager Unai Emery expressed delight with the development.

“I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us. He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”

Alex has also scored  six goals in 20 games for the Super Eagles, notably the winning goal that qualified Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
