The right-hand man to the former president of The Gambia has said he feels deeply remorseful for atrocities that he allowed to happen during the leader’s 21-year tenure.

In his third day of testimony, Edward Singhateh, a former army captain, told the Gambian truth commission he felt responsible for having installed Yahya Jammeh in office.

Mr Singhateh acknowledged a role in the arrest, torture and, in some cases, execution of people Mr Jammeh accused of plotting against him.

He apologised to Gambians for his past misdeeds.
