Jigawa state government to vaccinate 40,000 livestock


The Suletankarkar Local Government Area of Jigawa on Wednesday said more than 40,000 animals would be vaccinated in the ongoing Annual Animal Vaccination in the area.

According to the Council’s Spokesman, Alhaji Daudu Sulaiman, “More than forty thousand cattle, dogs, sheep, goats and poultry are expected to be vaccinated against different diseases in Suletankarkar Local Government Area.

‎“The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, will last for nine days,” Sulaiman said.

He explained that nine centres were designated for the conduct of the exercise across the area.

The spokesman added that the chairman of the council, Malam Jafaru Muhammad, had provided the vaccinators with the logistics support for a successful exercise.

The chairman of the council, Malam Jafaru Muhammad, urged herdsmen in the area to ensure they present their animals for vaccination while commending the state government for provision of enough doses of vaccines for the exercise.

‎ During the exercise, cattle were expected to be vaccinated against Contagious Bovine Pleuro Pnuemonia (CBPP), sheep and goats against Peste de Petites Prominante (PPR), dogs against Rabies, while chickens would be vaccinated against New Castle Disease.
