Judges of Federal High Courts in Nigeria have been directed to conclude all pending political cases that may affect any of the political parties on time.
This is in order to afford candidates the opportunity to pursue their political career.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdul Kafarati said this at the Special Court Session to mark the commencement of the 2018/2019 Legal Year in Abuja, Nigeria.
Justice Kafarati also said that Heads of Court were directed not to grant ex parte orders on political cases brought before the court as part of measures to ensure all parties in the case are heard.
“Judges who such cases are pending must endeavour to conclude them before the end of October, 2018” he stated.
Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami stated that he was convinced that under the leadership of Justice Kafarati, the federal High Court would consolidate on the gains of the past to reassert itself as a critical stakeholder in the ongoing initiative to propel the judiciary to new standards of excellence and credibility.
He urged the court to take urgent step to facilitate the speedy dispensation of Justice and engender public interest and confidence in the court.
