The Federal Operation Unit Zone “B” Kaduna says it has confiscated four trucks of smuggled goods with the duty paid value of N176,976 million within the axis.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer PRO, Abubakar Usman made the disclosure to newsmen shortly after displaying the seized items.
He said the seizure was made within three days of the lockdown imposed by government amidst the Covid -19 pandemic.
“One of the Dangote trucks seized was conveying 125 bags of smuggled rice concealed in a bag of maize.
While another canter was conveying 119 bags of smuggled rice which was sandwiched between water melon to avert the Custom officials.
This brings to the total number of 493 bags of foreign parboiled rice seized within the period”, he said.
Breakdown of items seized
The PRO said 63 bales containing 6,300 pieces of textile materials were also smuggled.
284 bundles which contained 5,680 pieces of Shidda were seized.
Amongst other items seized were 213 bags of NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer which falls under the import prohibition list order. He said bringing in such product violates section 46 of Customs Excise and Management Act CEMA CAP C45 LFN 2004.
Usman said four suspects were arrested and will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
He assured that the officers and men under the Zone will not relent in their efforts to reduce smuggling to the barest minimum.
Usman warned smugglers to desist from the illegal act which serves as a threat to the nation’s economy.
