Kaduna government to install water meters to regulate payments

Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, has directed the State Water Supply Corporation to install water meters in all new and existing installations.

This will enable consumers pay for what they consume, instead of the flat monthly rate which leads to waste and insufficient use of water.

He stated while declaring open a stakeholders workshop in Kaduna, for the review of developed tools, organized by the Kaduna State Water Services Regulatory Commission, KADSWAC.

The Governor noted that the government had accorded high priority to the water sector.

He advised KADSWAC and other stakeholders to actualize the framework put in place for subsidized social metering to address the water needs of the poorest and most vulnerable.

Governor El-Rufai, therefore, called on water consumers in the State to promptly pay their bills for services to be maintained, improved and expanded in line with the provision of the regulation.

He said the two regulations addressing groundwater exploitation had become necessary to address uncontrolled and substandard borehole drilling in the state.

“I call on all the Association of borehole drillers to give maximum cooperation in the application and enforcement of the regulation to address quackery of the drilling business. We will vigorously impose these regulations and deal decisively with anybody that violates them,” he stressed.
