Kaduna residents sensitized on waste management benefits

An NGO, Safety Awearness and Environmental Support Initiative (SEASI) has called on residents of Kaduna to take ownership of waste management in their communities.

Mohammed Yahaya, Controller General of the NGO, made the call while sensitiseing residents of Down quaters community in Kaduna South Local government Area on clean and safe environment.

The sensitization was tagged ‘Operation support to keep Kaduna clean/ community sensitization on clean safe environment.’

According to him, the NGO selected Down Quarters because it has been notorious when it comes to indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defication.

He said government cannot do it alone hence the need for NGO to support it in ensuring a safe and healthy environment to all citizens.

Yahaya called on communities to take ownership of their waste management and issues that have to do with environmental challenges.

More communities in the state need take ownership of refuse in their area by proper waste disposal to reduce refuse that cause health challenges to the barest minimum.”

He lamented that the area has no access roads for proper evacuation of its refuse.

Zubairu Galadima-Soba, State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) said the NGO is complementing the efforts of the Agency in sensitising communities on clean and healthy environment.

Represented by Badmus Murtala, Principal Programme Officer, the NOA director reminded the residents on the importance of regular hand washing.

He called on the residents to ensure the community stays clean to safeguard their health.
