Kano government cancels traditional Sallah event

Kano state government North Western Nigeria has cancelled the annual traditional Sallah event, Hawan Nassarawa, slated for Thursday 6th of June, 2019, over security concerns.

The governor in a statement after a security meeting that was held with all the security agencies, concerning all Sallah celebrations, as it is usually being done; there was intelligence report for the fear of breach of peace during the upcoming event.

Governor Ganduje said the cancellation was done to enhance the security and safety of the people and citizens living in Kano.

Retain peace
“As a result of the intelligence report, the state government is not relenting, and it declares Hawan Nassarawa cancelled.”

He said after the security meeting, the Kano Metropolitan Emirate Council was duly informed about the terrifying intelligence report and the cancellation of Hawan Nassarawa.

He urged the people to move around and feel free throughout the Sallah celebration days and beyond as every measure to retain peace in the state is being taken with utmost seriousness.

The cancellation was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Anwar Abbah.
