Kano police intercepts bus with electoral material

The Police in Kano state north western Nigeria have intercepted a Siena Bus loaded with electoral materials related to the ongoing gubernatorial and state house of Assembly elections in the state.

The interception was made at the Magwan Special Primarily school polling unit in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

The bus was found to contain cartons of Ballot papers, ink and stamp pad.

Police spokesman of the state, DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident saying the bus and five occupants have since been taken to the state police headquarters in Bumpai further investigation.

The buses were said to be two but one was able to speed off before the arrival of security operatives, after alarm was raised by some curious electorates.

In a related development snatched ballot boxes were intercepted at Geydi Geydi polling unit in Tauroni LGA by the police as the hoodlums were trying to make away with the two boxes.

DSP Haruna said after the intervention of the state Commissioner of Police, Wakil Mohammed normalcy was returned and it was generally agreed that the content of the broken boxes will be counted at the end of vote.

In Tudun Wuzirci in Gwale LGA, there was chaos caused by youths and the police had to fire teargas to quail the fracas.

Haruna said normalcy has since returned to the area.

It could be recalled that more mobilization of security operative were done from other States to join the 20,000 men and officers that took part in the Presidential election last week because Kano is considered to be a flash point.
