Kano records peaceful elections

Gubernatorial and state Assembly Elections was conducted peacefully in most of the local government areas of Kano state north-western Nigeria, even though some challenges were faced in some polling units yesterday.

Following the early celebration observed in some parts of the state, by members of some political parties, security has been beefed up within the metropolitan local government.

Briefing newsmen the commissioner of police Kano Mohammad wakili warned party supporters against celebrating victory before the announcement of the final results by the chief returning officer of the state.

Coalition of results from the forty local government areas has since begun at INEC headquarters in Kano, under the state collation officer Professor B. B Shehu.

Voice of Nigeria correspondent who went round the metropolitan areas this morning reports that the city was peaceful even though markets and other strategic business placess remain closed as people await the final results of GUBERNATORIAL and house of assembly elections.

It was also observed that security was beefed up in the metropolis to ensure peace and Harmony in the state before and after the announcement of the results by the state collation officer.
