Katsina State thanks Nigerians for supporting President Buhari

Timothy Choji, Abuja

The government and people of Katsina State have expressed gratitude to Nigerians for the massive support they are given President Muhammadu Buhari.

The State Governor, Aminu Masari gave the appreciation after he paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in his office on Thursday.

The Governor disclosed that the people of the State are ready to deliver over two million votes for President Buhari during the forth-coming elections, slated for February 2019.

He said: “The people of Katsina are very happy, ready and prepared to support President Muhammadu Buhari. They have been supporting him since 2003 and that support was consistent up to the election of 2015 when he won; even last month’s Senatorial bye-election still proved that consistency, when the All Progressives Congress APC won overwhelmingly.

The people of Katsina will continue to support the President even after the elections of 2019. Base on the figures coming out from the voters register, we expect to give him not less than 70 or 80 percent of the votes in our state. In 2015 we gave him almost 1.5 million votes so by 2019 we expect to give him additional one million votes, making it not less than 2.5 million votes.”

Electoral Offences Tribunal
On the proposed establishment of electoral offences tribunal, the Katsina State Governor said it was a step in the right direction that would curb delays in handling electoral litigations.

“During the Uwais Committee on that issue, we were heading a subcommittee of former legislators and Governors and we made a recommendation that apart from the independence of the country’s electoral body INEC, such a tribunal be established so that it will help in sanitizing our electoral process. The legal system as it is, it prolongs, it takes time and cases are decided even after you have forgotten about the offence and I think this will help make our elections more credible,” he said.
